About the art:
For this project I used a film camera, and developed the film in the dark room of the Gannett-Tripp Library. I didn't set out to produce art of one subject or another. Instead, I looked for scenes or moments that captured my eye. Typically, I leaned toward using a variety of close-up and far-away perspectives, manipulating depth of field. Shallow-depth of field was a common technique I often utilized.
I notice I prefer to focus on one item as a focal point, and the rest as just the scenery/chaos in the environment. As opposed to abstract photography, I find that I prefer more representational art. Photographs of people, animals, sunsets, and other moments that are never going to be exactly the same again are my favorites. I believe that photographs that capture moments, as opposed to landscapes that can be taken again and again, are more captivating to the viewer, because it savors a moment in time for eternity.
The meaning of my work would really be to capture memories; every photograph I take evokes a memory of a time or event. For example, the cat photograph reminds me of the day spent with my family driving around Watkins Glen. The photographs capture and emphasize the things in this world that I appreciate and find to be beautiful.
